Levi walked along the main path of route 120, following behind Isaac Merlo . The boy needed more pokemon, and since Isaac was the only person he knew at the moment, he figured that his 'mentor' could take him to go catch some pokemon. Levi didn't really care where Isaac took him, as long as he was able to catch something that caught his interest. The lavender-colored scarf Levi had wrapped around his neck covered his neck, concealing his numbered tattoo as the long end moved slightly with the breeze.

"Any reason why you chose this area to look for wild pokemon?" Levi said, finally saying something. Levi hadn't said anything since the two of them set out from HQ. The boy figured it was more than likely because the area probably had a type that he liked, or preferred. Either way, Levi was somewhat eager to catch some pokemon, despite not showing his eagerness outright.

"Beautiful greenery. Crisp, blue water. Trees as far as the eye can see. Towering cliffsides you can climb with ease if you find just the right handholds. And it's nestled right in the most peaceful part of Hoenn. The eastern seaboard's a tense island standoff, and the west is cities and towns as far as the eye can see. This right here's where you go when you actually want some quiet."[break][break]

Of course, he knew Levi wouldn't care about all of that. The poor kid wouldn't know selfcare if it hit him like a truck. Luckily, Isaac had the answer for that all cued up and ready to go. "Pokemon show up all over the wild. But a good life means a healthier, happier, Pokemon. And while it might take some training to prod it out of 'em, those are always the strongest kinds."[break][break]

He remembered his days as a sad, lonely runaway. Back then, he couldn't even fend off a single poacher. Now that he'd gotten his life in shape, surrounded himself with people who loved him, and refused to let his baggage claim mastery over him, he was stronger than ever before. And a happier, healthier, stronger Isaac raised a happier, healthier, stronger team.[break][break]

Perhaps one day, he'd have the strength to finally take control of his life. Yet, here he was.[break][break]

That made Isaac realize just how little he knew about Levi up to this point. "What are your Pokemon like, anyway?" he asked, shooting the kid a curious glance. "You catch any of 'em yourself? Or are most of them passed down from Rocket command?"

Levi tilted his head slightly; giving Isaac a quizzical deadpan stare. Whatever Isaac was trying to have the boy understand, it just simply was not computing. He didn't get it at all. "Sure, I guess ..." was all Levi said, not really sure what Isaac was expecting for an answer.

Levi was then asked what his pokemon were like and how he got them. Now, that was an easy answer. "They're pretty aggressive. Sulfur's the strongest out of the two, but Emet can hold his own." Levi paused before continuing. "They were given to me the moment my initiation began. I haven't caught any other pokemon." Levi said truthfully. In fact, he didn't feel the need to catch any other pokemon back when he was in Kanto.

Before Levi started to speak again, a Grimmsnarl appeared, seeming like it meant business. It attempted to lunge at Levi and strike him with a SUCKER PUNCH, however before the Grimmsnarl could reach the boy, one of the pokeballs dangling from Levi's belt activated, opening on it's own, materializing Sulfur, his Tyranitar, absorbing the blow from the wild pokemon as if it were nothing. "Finish it," Levi said, commanding his Tyranitar.

The Tyranitar roared, causing an EARTHQUAKE. Levi hopped up on the back of his Tyranitar, knowing that would be the safest place for him rather than standing on the ground's surface. The earth in front of Sulfur buckled, breaking apart violently, entrapping the Grimmsnarl in the partially cracked-open ground. It tried to get out, but after Sulfur's attack, Levi presumed it barely had the energy to stand. Levi tossed a pokeball at the Grimmsnarl's head hard, smacking against it when it made contact, then was forced inside of the pokeball. After it clicked, Levi knew that it had been caught, hopping off from the tyranitar's back, going to collect his new pokemon. "Well, that was easy," Levi said nonchalantly.

Unfortunately, before Isaac could inquire further, they'd been interrupted. A Grimmsnarl burst from nowhere, throwing a heavy Sucker Punch right for Levi. Isaac grabbed his Pokeball, ready to snap into action and intervene, but he had to give the kid credit. He was quick on the draw, throwing his own Pokeball down so his Tyranitar could absorb the impact.[break][break]

It was the special move of a man he refused to call father. Isaac knew it was coming before Levi even gave the other. He tossed his own Pokeball to the ground, a Ralts springing from it and leaping into his arms. The second the ground started to shake, the Ralts snapped his fingers, and then they were gone.[break][break]

Rather than taking any damage from the blow, Isaac had been sent safely into the air by the Ralts' Teleport. Isaac held him close while the Ralts pulled back with Psychic power, allowing for the two of them to harmlessly drift down onto the ground. When they landed on a safer part of the desolated landscape, Isaac ruffled the Ralts' hair affectionately, letting him hop up and perch on his shoulder.[break][break]

He winced a little as Levi threw a Pokeball, perhaps more roughly than needed, at the trapped Grimmsnarl's head. It didn't argue. The Pokeball twitched once . . . twice . . . for now, it seemed to be caught, but Isaac wondered if Levi scooping it up was premature. "Just make sure the ball's settled before you called it," Isaac said. It had been a while since he'd seen a catch fail, as if the Hoenn region itself was equipping them for war. But he never wanted to say never. "Sometimes, a Pokemon will surprise y-"[break][break]

Speaking of surprises, the Ralts tugged on Isaac's collar. He seemed . . . scared? For a second, Isaac wondered why his Ralts was shaking. The murmuring sobs by the edge of the battlefield were all that he needed.[break][break]

An onlooker had gotten swept up in the action. A Whismur, scratched, bruises up, and trembling. Being an empath, Ralts tended to be susceptible to contagious emotions such as this. Immediately, Isaac snapped into attention, turning his head towards the Ralts. "You know what to do, Echo. Let's get him back on his feet."[break][break]

It started the Whismur even more when Echo teleported right up to it. However, before it could scream, Echo gently shushed it. He whipped up a cloud of Life Dew between his hands, easily treating the weaker Pokemon's wounds. Once that was done, he offered a hand, helping the poor thing up to its feet. It peeped happily, and then it was off.[break][break]

Levi would probably be baffled. But Isaac was downright relieved. Once that little diversion was done, he turned back to Levi, checking to see how the catch went. "Really put some extra pepper in that throw, huh?" he asked, letting Levi judge the intent of that statement on his own.

Despite Levi's interest in the Grimmsnarl, the boy had noticed what Isaac did, calling his Ralts to Teleport him up in the air, only for it to use its psychic powers to gently send them back to the ground after Sulfur's EARTHQUAKE did its respective job. The moment Levi hopped off his Tyranitar, attempting to pick up the still pokeball he used to catch the Grimmsnarl, Isaac told him that he should wait a bit, but Levi picked it up without difficulty, showing that the pokemon had been successfully caught.

As Levi placed the Pokeball on his belt along with the others, he then heard the sobs which seemed to be coming from a Whismur that was caught in the crossfire of Sulfur's EARTHQUAKE. When Isaac had his Ralts heal the pokemon's wounds, Levi made a 'tch' sound, while making his eyes look away. 'Pathetic' Levi thought to himself. The way Levi saw it was that Isaac should've just let the thing stay there. Why would he bother healing such a weak broken thing?

It also seemed that the Tyranitar's attack from earlier caused some more wild pokemon to come out of hiding. One of the pokemon that appeared was one that Levi had never seen before. It looked like some sort of dog pokemon. It growled at Levi, poising itself to pounce. However, when it did, attempting to bite down on Levi's arm, using LOCK JAW, Sulfur stepped in front of his small master once again, letting the small dog bite down on its arm instead, still not seeming to do much of anything but make the dog yelp when it realized it bit down on something extremely hard. Sulfur grimaced while giving the small dog a death glare before flinging it helplessly into the air. Just as it was about fall, Sulfur caught it, but not in a friendly way. He caught the Maschiff by biting down on the small thing's own paw with a FIRE FANG. The dog cried, howling out in pain as Sulfur's maw held its paw there, burning it. Then, when the thing seemed weak enough, Sulfur flung it to the ground, prompting Levi to throw a Pokeball at it.

When Isaac commented on Levi throwing the Pokeball at the Grimmsnarl he had caught a few minutes ago, Levi just looked at him and said, "Yeah, what about it?" not understanding the reason why Isaac brought it up.

[attr="class","skullbody"]The rest of Levi's fights shaped up to be just as brutal as his encounter with the Grimmsnarl, the Maschiff being held, weakened, and flung to the ground when it had enough. The kid wasn't even old enough to drink, and yet he already had such a hardened edge to him.[break][break]

"Well, let me ask you something," Isaac said, shooting Levi a curious look. "You're on a mission, first outing on your own, and it takes a bad turn. League catches up with you, and you're gonna have to fight. You start with your heavies, of course. But they're just 2 of your 6, and they get worn down in a fight. So naturally, that hulking ogre you grabbed seems like a good fallback option, right?"[break][break]

"You throw the ball out. He looks at you. Then he realizes his biceps are the size of your torso, and you said 'hi' by beaning him in the skull with all you've got." Isaac let that math set in for a second. "Do you think he's gonna feel like lifting a finger to help you, especially with the big guy that did the real legwork that fight out of commission? And do you think you'll be able to rely on him when you really need him?"[break][break]

"Sometimes, holding back a little can go a long way." Isaac looked over to the distance, where the Whismur had long scampered off. "Take that little ticking time bomb I just saw off. Little puff doesn't look like much, but they're loud as all hell and keep big family units."[break][break]

"Know what happens if we let it cry? We're getting a mob of Loudred chasing us across the route. And even if we fight 'em down, all that screaming's gonna send the route's wilds running for the hills. That's just a waste of a perfectly good catching day."[break][break]
